THIS IS A LABOR STUDIES WORKING GROUP EVENT AND IS NOT SPONSORED BY SYRACUSE GRADUATE EMPLOYEES UNITED.
Unionization is resurgent across the country. There has been a wave of organizing from Starbucks to Amazon and unions are increasingly popular with the general public. The organizing wave has also impacted higher education: at Yale, Northwestern and the University Chicago (and many other campuses) graduate students have voted overwhelmingly in favor of unionization.
Here at Syracuse, Syracuse Graduate Employees United (SGEU) is also in the middle of their own organizing drive and will vote in early April. This teach-in brings together faculty, graduate students, and other union members across campus to discuss the role of unions in higher education.
What is the general landscape of unionization across higher education? What would it mean for graduate students to unionize at Syracuse?
The event will take place in 341 Eggers Hall.
