Get Out the Vote All-Member Meeting!
We will be having an GOTV All Member Meeting Tuesday (03/28) at 5:30 PM in Physics 202 & 204 (zoom option will be available!) bring your fellow coworkers and help with the final push of our union campaign!
Please note that this meeting is for SGEU members only.

A Teach In on Unions and the University
THIS IS A LABOR STUDIES WORKING GROUP EVENT AND IS NOT SPONSORED BY SYRACUSE GRADUATE EMPLOYEES UNITED.
Unionization is resurgent across the country. There has been a wave of organizing from Starbucks to Amazon and unions are increasingly popular with the general public. The organizing wave has also impacted higher education: at Yale, Northwestern and the University Chicago (and many other campuses) graduate students have voted overwhelmingly in favor of unionization.
Here at Syracuse, Syracuse Graduate Employees United (SGEU) is also in the middle of their own organizing drive and will vote in early April. This teach-in brings together faculty, graduate students, and other union members across campus to discuss the role of unions in higher education.
What is the general landscape of unionization across higher education? What would it mean for graduate students to unionize at Syracuse?
The event will take place in 341 Eggers Hall.
Organizing Committee Meeting
Organizing Committee (OC) meetings are held weekly and are open to all SGEU members who would like to get more involved!

All-Member Organizing Meeting
This Thursday, Jan 26th, we are holding an all-member organizing meeting at 6:30pm in HBC Kittredge Auditorium [email us if you would like to attend via Zoom]. We will be having a collective conversation about who we will propose be included in our bargaining unit (those included in the recognition process) to the administration. This is an important conversation by which all SGEU supporters will be impacted. Our decision will be decided by a 2/3s vote of attendees at this meeting - so it is critical that you show up! Non-present members will count as abstained.

Phone Bank Party!
Join your fellow grads to phone bank from 4pm to 6pm at 137 Cambridge St. Apt. #1. We'll be calling grads who have signed cards but have yet to have a full conversation about our campaign, how to get more involved, and our plan to win!
Nervous about calling people on the phone? Don't be! We'll all be working from a script and making these calls together in a fun and supportive environment. You'll also be calling supporters with exciting news about our progress!
Still out of town for the break? No problem! We have a Zoom option. Email info@syracusegradsunited.org if you’d like the link!
After making some calls, we'll walk a few blocks over to Alto Cinco (526 Westcott St.) at 6pm for drinks (on you) and appetizers (on the union).
If you're coming in person, you must bring a laptop with you! You'll need your laptop to access the call list and the call script.

Phone Banking
We'll be calling and having conversations with our coworkers about winning our union starting at 7PM in 107 Huntington Hall. Food will be provided. All SGEU supporters are welcome!

Organizing Committee Meeting
The SGEU Organizing Committee meets weekly to discuss campaign strategy and share updates. Any graduate worker is welcome to join! Food will be provided.

World Cup Watch Party
SGEU is hosting a watch party for the championship match of the 2022 World Cup at Salt City Market (484 S Salina St, Syracuse, NY 13202)! Light snacks will be provided from the various restaurants throughout the Salt City Market food court. All SGEU supporters are welcome and please invite other grad workers you know. We will do our best to save some tables, but seating is limited so an early arrival is advised!
